For Muffin Tin Monday we read My many colored days by Dr. Suess. I love this book.It also kinda went along with our home evening that we talked about that night. It was a story from the Friend magazine. It talked about a girl who got hurt and couldn't perform at her gymnastics tournament, and how a lot of people have good and bad days (and trials). One day we might feel pink or yellow and another day maybe brown or black. But we can always make the most of what comes our way. I know that I have times when I get down and have to remember to be happy and positive. (Sorry it is so mushy, but it really is a great book with a lot of meaning behind it.) Brooklynn had Brown bread for her sandwich, Brown crackers, orange carrots, green celery, red strawberries, blue blueberries, pink juice, white ranch dressing and yellow popcorn. (Do you think she is sick of me always taking her picture?) The next day we decided to color these window things that her aunt Terra gave her for her birthday. Brooklynn loves to paint and consentrates so hard.
Even though Brooklynn's birthday was a month ago. I promised her a birthday party with a few friends.(and cousins) But it is just too hard to do it around Christmas and New Years. So on Friday she had a Tinkerbell Tea Party. All the little girls dressed up and got a little juice with a princess on it and a Princess figurine and ate cupcakes. Now what little girl doesn't like dressing up? They had a blast. Brooklynn got lots of fun stuff from her cousins and friends. I think they all had fun playing with their new princesses in Brooklynn's doll house. Lately Brooklynn LOVES Hannah Tannah (Hannah Montana) just like her older cousin Abbie. Abbie gave her a cd with the Hannah Montana songs. Here are all the girls (minus Ellie, who was a little shy). It sure was a fun little dress up party.
Here is my new nephew Zachary James Dennis. Johanna was a week late and her doctor was going to start her on Tuesday. But she started having contractions Thursday night and finally Friday morning they were bad. They got to the hospital around 5:45 and got into the room and she was already a 10. Zachary was born at 6:15am. He was 8 lbs. 7 oz. 20 inches long.
At first I thought that Zach and Caleb looked alike but really they actually do look a little different. Zachary has about 10x more hair than Caleb did. It is so cute. It is about 1 inch long.
What a cute family they are. I can't wait to see what this little foursome turns into. Johana wants lots of kids. Can't wait. They make cute kids!
OH MY! Zachary is 2 pounds bigger than Cameron was when he was born. I can't believe that Cameron has gotten so big. In fact together Cameron is just HUGE compaired to this little guy!
What a nice big brother! Caleb is quite a wild boy but he is very sweet to little Zach. I can't wait until he is home from the hospital and I can take more pictures of this cute little dude.
This week we had Muffin Tin Monday on Sunday (hey at least I still am doing it right?) Well we read two books about the Circus. We read My monkey and Me and Dumbo. She had a corndog, celery and ranch, banana and popcorn.
Brooklynn really enjoyed the books and her lunch.
I couldn't believe that she ate it so good, I love Muffin Tin Monday and will be doing it for a long time.
Today is my mom's birthday Wahoo! Another year older and wiser. So when I was 18 my mom got 18 of my good friends to write me a message and then she sent it to me on 18 roses. It was so sweet and thoughtful. I knew one day I wanted to repay her. (Who knew it would be almost 10 years later.) Well then I saw an episode on Oprah and had to do it. So we made my mom a "Box of Love" I contacted my mom's friends, family and coworkers to send a message to my mom. Everyone from "The Gang" (my mom's best friends from highschool and after highschool) to our old friends when we lived in Kearns 15 years ago, a girl that my mom babysat as a baby to age 7 (who is now 21), good friends in her current ward, friends at her old and new job, family who all love her so much to us 4 kids, 2 spouses and 3 grandkids.
I knew that my mom was loved but I was amazed at the response and the people that wanted to tell my mom how much she is loved. We had over 50 letters. At first my mom was surprised and kept saying how did you talk to these people and where did you see them. It was so fun.
Before she opened it she was a little nervous, but once she got over all the questions she was very touched and appreciative.
Although we let my mom read all of the letters by herself. My mom did have Terra (my mom didn't want to cry) read Josh, Johanna, Caleb,Mine, Ryan's, Brooklynn and Cameron's, Terra and Jake's letters.
I am so glad that my mom knows that there are more than 50 people that love her so much. She can always have a friend or someone to talk to.
This is a picture of my mom and cousin Tina. Jacob bought my mom a cell phone and is paying for it for her birthday. She is so cool, it will be nice to be able to acctually get a hold of her.
So I just wanted to say a few things about my mom. She is very funny, sweet, friendly and fun to be with. Her laugh is contagious. She is very thoughtful and sensitive. My mom celebrates everything and I always had fun growing up. Every holiday was a special day and she taught us to live it up! As a mom I try to follow her footsteps. Her greatest attribute is her role as a mother. She has always been a great mom. My mom has been a great example, friend, disciplinary (when needed), and always trusted us. I haven't kept things from her because I knew she would never judge me. She has always called us her jewels in her crown. I explained to her in her letter that yes, we might be her jewels but she is the one that has protected and polished us until we shined. But jewels are nothing with out a crown. I love my mom so much. Through all her trials and tribulations she never wavered. She continued her responsiblities and roll as a mother and raised us (pretty much) on her own. I know that she has and will be blessed for her faithfulness. Love you mom!
This is a song by Taylor Swift called The Best Day. When I heard it, it reminded me of my mom. Because really with her she made every day special and the best.
For Muffin Tin Monday we read the book Does a Kanagaroo have a Mother too? The food doesn't really go along with the book but she had a ham sandwich, chips, carrots and strawberries.
And she sure liked it a lot.Especially those yummy strawberries... delicious!
Then that night for Home Evening we did the lesson The Armor of God. It was good and Brooklynn enjoyed helping.
I just realized that my friend Lindsay Kemeny gave us the book for a shower for Brooklynn when she was born and then this was Lindsay's lesson from our old Home Evening group. It was Lindsay Day!!! I didn't plan that. Anyways, I really enjoy having home evenings and I am so glad that Brooklynn likes them and is involved. I am noticing that when we do home evening our week is better and we have a happy home. I am very thankful for my family and all of our blessings.
Wahoo! Cameron slept all night, two nights in a row. He has slept for 6 hours at a time but now he is sleeping 9. I hope it continues. What a good little boy!
Brooklynn says the funniest things... I walk around the corner. (Brooklynn:) "Oh mom you freaked me out."
(about the Halloween picture of Boo) "Mom, Boo's a witch, a nice one though, just thought I'd tell you."
(when I ask her to do something) "No, I too busy."
Brooklynn: "Hi Dani" Me: "I am mom, why did you call me Dani?" Brooklynn: "Cause your Dani"
(I don't remember what I did) Brooklynn: "Oh mom, you make me crazy"
(after I told Brooklynn no more chocolate, but I snuck some in the car for me to eat.) Brooklynn: "I smell chocolate! Mom, stop eating my candy."
Me: "Berkie can you clean up your mess now?" Brooklynn: "I just too lazy now"
(Brooklynn asked me for a bowl for something) Brooklynn: "Oh, this bowl is perfect."
(Cameron's second night home he was crying in the middle of the night.) Brooklynn walked in our room: "Please tell the baby to be quiet." and she walked right back out and went to bed.
Well family home evening was always hard with a little baby and then she grew to a toddler and was even harder. She would not hold still longer than two seconds. Well now she is a big girl and a sunbeam and loves talking about church, temples and Jesus. On Monday I let Brooklynn choose the lesson and she chose the story from her Friend magazine (the one with the grandma is what she wanted). It was called The Talent Show.
We read the story and shared our talents that we have.
Brooklynn shared with us her love of art and painting.
Ryan loves running and is good at it. He plans to do 4 marathons in 2009.
I shared my love for photography. Especially of my little kiddies.
We decided that Cameron is really good at jumping in his excersaucer.
Afterwards we played Snorta. Such a fun game. It will take a few times for Brooklynn to get the hang of it. But she loved doing all the animal sounds and then she would crack up laughing. (Except she did the sounds before she put her cards down, so we knew what her cards were.)
After Christmas we got together with Ryan's extended family on the Oldroyd side. There was several cousins in from out of town and so we went to Ryan's parents ward and hung out. This is Nathan, he is one of Sam and Alisha's twins. He loved hanging his head upside down. Cameron loves that too!
The wiggle cars were very popular. Brooklynn and her cousins Abbie, Tyler and Chase all got them for Christmas. But I think that all us adults want them too.
Ryan's dad and my neice Gracie.
Ryan's cousin Tom and his little girl. UH OH! We all remember the Sammy incident... Just teasing.
Brady and Gracie on the wiggle car. Gracie wasn't too sure about it at first.
Gordon and Bailey and Katie on the car.
Sam and the cute little twins Nathan and Alexa. They were born in August and Cameron in October and Cameron was the same size. They are so dang cute.
It was so fun to see everyone and just hang out and talk.
This past Saturday we had Cameron's blessing. Due to family members that are in bishopric's we couldn't find a Sunday that worked. So we did it on Saturday at Ryan's dad's wardhouse. Ryan did a great job, it was a very sweet and special blessing. Look at the little stud in his white blessing outfit.
Grandma Ann holding the dude. We had some friends come from our old ward and new ward. My sister Terra and my grandma Budd. My two brothers Jacob and Josh. My mom and my neices Katie and Alex Nanci and Gracie. My nephew Connor We had a lot of food. And I was worried we wouldn't have enough... We had a ton left over. Sandwiches for a week... YUM! Big Sis Brooklynn and her new food invention. Jello on Doritos. YUMMY! My sister-in-law Johana and her little boy Caleb. She is expecting another boy and he will be here in about 2 weeks. (P.S. Happy Birthday today Johana) My sister-in-law Danielle holding Cameron. Our little family after the blessing. Thanks Katie for taking the picture. (I forgot to get one at the blessing.)
Thanks to all those who came and helped with the food and clean up. Also many people had other things they were doing that day but still were able to come and support us. Grandma and Grandpa Record had a VERY long day, Jacob who had to quickly leave to an institute party that he planned, Ann had other plans too. Thanks to mom and dad Oldroyd who let us use the church building and did set up and clean up. (Not to mention let us come over after for a Wii party. It was wonderful and I am so glad to share this with our family and friends.
